In the grind of day-to-day responsibilities of balancing work, vacation-planning, and keeping up with the summer festival headliners, it’s easy to forget that the Hamptons (the ultimate New Yorkers’ getaway) is only two hours away. And in the Hamptons, lies Shou Sugi Ban House. That’s a getaway within a getaway.
Shou Sugi Ban House puts a new spin on the Hamptons as you know them. Not only is it a new destination spa that encompasses in itself holistic wellness, as well as healing arts and remedies from around the world, Shou Sugi Ban House is wall-to-wall surrounded by over 250 deciduous evergreen trees and 20,000 different kinds of grasses. Talk about a green sanctuary. Shou Sugi Ban House is a private, three-acre oasis with thirteen 400-square-foot guest studios. We’re talking floor-to-ceiling windows, a wood fireplace, a Hinoki ofuro bathtub (which is essential a hot spring experience in your bathroom), and a private garden patio for meditation or a massage.
And although you technically don’t need to leave your studio, should you choose to, the sanctuary encompasses in itself five treatment rooms, Ashiatsu massage rooms, Watsu and plunge pools, a chromotherapy shower (which uses colored lights to aid stress-relief), a solarium deck, indoor and outdoor relaxation lounges, and a thermal suite that comes equipped with an infrared sauna for detoxifying the body and mind. Some of the signature treatments include a micro-needling facial by Biologique Recherche, a vibrational sound healing treatment, a chakra-balancing reiki treatment with customized aromatherapy, and a full-body deep tissue massage.
And for a break from taking a break, Shou Sugi Ban House has a tea bar, an autumn cherry dining orchard, organic vegetables and herb gardens (rest assured, the Shou chefs take full advantage of them), and a private curated library of books.
Shou Sugi Ban House offers overnight retreats as well as half-day rituals.
