Emily in Rome

Because everyone should get to know the Italian version of themselves, Emily decamped to Rome from Paris this season, and the filming locations did not disappoint. Watching the series this season is like watching your latest guide to Rome.

The Location: Hotel de Russie

Over a hundred years before Emily Cooper checked in, French poet Jean Cocteau dubbed Hotel de Russie “paradise on earth” — and it’s easy to see why. Located between Piazza del Popolo and the Spanish Steps, Hotel de Russie is classical Roman luxury meets contemporary chic living. In their rooms and suites, bold and colorful patterns are complemented by regal gold motifs and marble statues. Outside, the hotel’s Mediterranean tiered Secret Garden is a timeless hideaway nestled in the Eternal City; rose bushes, orange trees, pine trees, and waterfall included. And like any slice of paradise worth its salt, it has a bar, duh. Stravinskij Bar offers all day drinks and bites against the backdrop of majestic nymphaeums. On the other hand, Le Jardin is the hotel’s option for a more elegant, fine Italian dining experience.

The Location: La Posta Vecchia

Picture it: you’ve spent a few days in Rome, exhausting yourself pounding the pavements once walked by emperors. And what you really need is a vacation away from your vacation. Enter La Posta Vecchia. Just a short journey from Rome, La Posta Vecchia sits on an expanse of lush, untouched coast in Palo Laziale, right on the Tyrrhenian Sea. The hotel itself is a 17th century Renaissance villa built atop the ruins of an ancient Roman seaside resort. Needless to say, this is where you go when you want to be treated like royalty. The suites are all plush velvet, thick flowing curtains, and period furnishings that will have you questioning which century your check-out date is in. If you can manage to rouse yourself from your canopy bed, you can enjoy locally sourced Italian cuisine with a seaside view at Da Aurelio, or nurse a negroni at Bar Piranesi.

The Location: Orient Express La Minerva

Who knew Emily was such a travel trendsetter? She (and her real-life actress Lily Collins) were probably some of the first guests at The Orient Express La Minerva, which opened in April 2025, shortly after the launch of the La Dolce Vita Orient Express Train. There’s really no other way to put it — this hotel is drop dead gorgeous. La Minerva sits in a 17th century palace on Piazza della Minerva, home to Bernini’s Elephant and Obelisk. The hotel is an absolute vision in Art Deco. Decadent warm tones, geometric design, and thoughtful velvet, metallic, and wooden accents stay true to the iconic Orient Express brand. But the pièce de résistance has to be Gigi Rigolatto Roma, the rooftop restaurant and bar perched high above The City of Seven Hills and offering Insta-worthy views of the Pantheon, the Vittoriano, and St. Peter’s Basilica.

The Location: Sofitel Roma Villa Borghese

A 19th century Palazzo, but give it BOSE sound systems, Nespresso machines, and bathroom mirrors with TVs in them. That’s what awaits you in the rooms and suites at Sofitel Roma Villa Borghese. It’s no wonder our 21st century bestie Emily Cooper had to stop before jetsetting back to Paris. The hotel is tucked on a quiet street near the Villa Borghese gardens, and fuses elegant Italian heritage and contemporary French art de vivre. The accommodations are all modern minimalism; soft whites and blues and marble decor. But Settimo, the rooftop restaurant and bar, boasts a funkier flavor with rich jewel tones, velvet furniture, mosaic touches, and a sweeping panorama of the Roman skyline to boot.
