We really dig a hotel that calls itself a “rebel retreat’. Located on the Costa del Sol, newly opened La Zambra is a design hotel with a bohemian vibe. Its décor would fit right into Tulum, but instead it’s located between Marbella and Malaga, in the space of that former den of debauchery, the Hôtel Byblos. Here’s the first look.
Overview
Though the property may have been originally been home to the hedonistic, La Zambra has been completely refurbished under the Hyatt group. The architecture is warm and neutral, reflecting the Andalusian style. In the mountains, it blends with the village of Mijas which also is filled with white stone buildings. The grounds of La Zambra have a number of gardens and swimming pools, including both family and adult only pools. Since Andalusia is one of Europe’s popular golfing destinations la Zambra comes with access to golf at Los Olivos and Los Lagos. La Zabra itself is a type of flamingo dance and refers to the property’s party going roots.
Rooms
There are 197 rooms and suites to choose from at La Zambra. When choosing your room or suite, there are three categories. These options are Superior Rooms, Junior Suites, or Suites. Each has terrace and local craft and art adorning the walls. However, only the Signature Suite and the Terrace Suite have an in suite wine cellar. Rooms have either a garden or a golf view.
Food and Dining
Guests have four options for eating on site at La Zambra, Palmito, Picador, Bamboleo, and La Bartola. Palmito and Picador are the two main restaurants. Palmito serves buffet style breakfasts and more formal dinners. Favored by couples, Picador is a neo-taverna serving both tapas and Mediterranean classics using local ingredients. Bamboleo and La Bartola are both bars with light snacks and small meal options. Bamboleo’s extensive cocktail menu goes along with it’s variety of tapas which take inspiration from Asia, America, and Mexico making them unique to the rest of the restaurants. La Bartola is a pool bar which serves fritura andaluza and more drinks like the La Zambra signature sangrias.
Spa
The Mood Spa is 2,500 square meters and the largest spa in Costa del Sol. This space includes pools, Turkish Baths, hammam and a relaxation area on the spa’s patio. Every guest will be treated to a personalized program which starts with being assigned a therapist to help shape the experience based off their needs. Additionally, the rest of the wellness program has daily yoga, which can be schedules for private classes. Tennis and paddle quarts are also available for fitness and entertainment.
