As a whole, many Sri Lankan dishes can be a bit intricate for your kids to tackle. Starting with this straightforward “milk rice” will give them a good introduction to the cuisine.

Cook time: 15 minutes
Place rice, water, and salt in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil then reduce heat and cover. Cook, about 10 minutes, until rice is soft and the water is absorbed. When rice is cooked, reduce heat to low and stir in the coconut milk. Simmer until the rice begins to break down and the coconut milk is absorbed. Serve warm with sliced banana and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
